Despite finding the cash for Craig Bellamy, Laurent Robert, Jermaine Jenas, Hugo Viana, Titus Bramble, Jonathan Woodgate and Darren Ambrose in the last couple of seasons the board are still more than happy to provide Sir Bobby with the funds to try and bring success to St James’ Park.
"I won't mention figures but we are probably only one of a handful of clubs with the resources to go out and strengthen our squad," Shepherd told The Journal.
"We will spend if it is needed - that's always been the policy of this board. No manager has ever left this club complaining that the board has deprived him of funds. I've heard it said elsewhere, but not here.
"We've always come up with the funds when they're required and that will continue.
"We've already sat down with Bobby and identified possible targets and we'll be sitting down again soon to discuss them further.
"Make no mistake, next season is massive for us. There will be ins and outs at Newcastle."
