Everyone has known for sometime that Nobby is playing for Peru in the USA this week but the following quotes still appeared in the papers over the weekend.
"My country is most important to me now. Bobby Robson is annoyed that I'm going to play for Peru, but in the end he just has to accept it.
"I'll miss a lot of matches for Newcastle by playing in our World Cup qualifiers. I knew I would be left out against Leeds and even against Manchester United next week.
"But I've told him I will be travelling, and that's it.
"Newcastle have a good player (Bowyer) in my position now anyway.
"And if the manager decides to sell me, then I'll have to go. That's football. This sort of thing happens all the time."
It seems unlikely that Nobby would make those comments on the first weekend of the season or the bit about Bowyer at all, so it seems that some journalists just want to cause trouble.
You can’t blame Nobby for wanting to play for his country but at the same time Sir Bobby has the right to expect a certain level of commitment from such a highly paid player.
However until FIFA introduces a standardised international season the rows will continue.
