With Manchester City claiming they will be signing a "world class striker" in January, and Sven Goran Eriksson naming Owen as one player "I would like him in my side, of course I would, and so would many more managers" ... Mort could be bracing himself for the transfer window opening.
Mort: "I think Michael does incredibly well with things - if you look at the amount of column inches he receives, he does a brilliant job dealing with it.
"There are a number of players in the country where this is going to be the case.
"They have the media following their every move. I've not talked to Michael about a contact extension.
"We are enjoying seeing him fit and well again and performing well on the pitch. I don't feel now is the right time to talk about extending his contract.
"I think he just wants to get back to playing regular football.
"And it's great to see him back on the pitch which is where we want him."
