BBC Sport reports that the Magpies have agreed a deal to bring Japan international forward Yoshinori Muto in from Mainz.
The 26-year-old featured for his nation at the World Cup and will arrive on Tyneside to hopefully strengthen the Magpies in the final third, after Benitez’s side struggled for consistency in front of goal last season.
“He played in the World Cup in a good team. He has done well in the Bundesliga, so we’re talking about a striker that’s doing well in the last few years at international level.”
