Eric Cantona may have taken all the headlines but without doubt it was the performances of Peter Schmeichel that ensured the Premiership trophy ended up at Old Trafford again.
The 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at St James’ Park that season proved to be the turning point and as I’m sure you all remember it was the succession of stunning saves from the Dane that won the game for them.
Even this season he produced a string of fine saves at Maine Road to deny us a point against Manchester City.
Schmeichel is undoubtedly one of the all time goalkeeping greats, and the highest tribute I can pay him is to say that I’m glad to see the back of him.
