It quotes a (possibly fictional) club insider as saying:
"Alan may be 32 but he is playing as well as he has done at any stage of his career."He still has 18 months of his contract to run, but we want to ensure he finishes his career at Newcastle. We will sit down with him at the end of this season and sort out a new deal. All the indications are that he wants to stay.
"A two-year extension would take him up to 36, but Teddy Sheringham has proved strikers can still be effective in the Premiership at that age."
After his form this season any extension to Alan’s playing career would be welcome.
