Newcastle have had a £20m bid accepted by Bournemouth for striker Callum Wilson.
Relegated from the Premier League last season, a number of Cherries stars have been made available for transfer, with Wilson set to be the next to depart the south coast and return to top-flight football.
Linked with all manner of clubs over the past two seasons, the latest to register an interest have been Aston Villa and Newcastle, and it is the latter who have won the race to sign the England international.
As per the Daily Mail, Steve Bruce's side have had a £20m bid accepted, fending off interest from the Villans despite their bid falling short of the other offer. Villa had a £21m bid rejected by Bournemouth, but Wilson's preference to move to St James' Park has seen the Magpies win the race.
Given the player's desire, Dean Smith's men withdrew their interest to instead focus their attentions on other targets. Bruce is aiming to reunite Wilson with his former teammate, Ryan Fraser, who left Dean Court at the end of his contract after rejecting improved terms to extend his stay in line with football's postponement.
With the free agent closing in on a move north, it will see them reforge a formidable partnership from the 2018/19 season. Between the Fraser and Wilson, they scored 21 goals and set up another 23 as the Cherries finished in 14th place.
For Bruce, adding goals into his side has been the immediate target for the summer window. The Magpies averaged just one goal per game last season, with their club record £40m signing Joelinton netting just twice in the Premier League - averaging a goal every 22.5 hours.
In total, Wilson netted 67 goals in his 184 Bournemouth appearances, while he has made four England appearances to date, scoring his maiden international goal on his debut against the United States in November 2018.
