Newcastle United are keen to battle Schalke for the signature of Abdul Baba Rahman, despite Chelsea manager Antonio Conte reportedly being keen to give the left-back another chance.
The 22-year-old was snapped up by Chelsea from Augsburg during the summer of 2015 by former manager Jose Mourinho for an initial fee of £14 million.
However, the Ghana international struggled to hold down a regular first-team place and was loaned out to Schalke last summer.
Whilst Schalke have disappointed this season – they sit in tenth place in the Bundesliga table – Rahman had made an impression in the first part of the season before a knee injury ended his campaign in January.
However, the Mirror reports that Newcastle are also looking at signing up Rahman in order to solve their problems at left-back this season.
Vurnon Anita was a regular in that position for a big part of the Championship season, but Rafa Benitez’s side are aware they need a proper full-back ahead of an intense Premier League campaign.

Christian Atsu, who spent the season on loan at St.James Park from Chelsea, has reportedly recommended his compatriot Rahman to Benitez.
The only issue for Newcastle is the aforementioned report states that Chelsea could be keen to give Rahman another chance to make an impression at the club.
