Sammy Ameobi: “I didn’t realise we’d done it but I can’t say how proud we both are.
“I’m sure our parents will be proud. We spoke to them on the way home so it’s a great a moment for them too. It’s a unique feat for us.
“The main thing is we are into the next round but it’s a great tie to look forward to.
“Scoring for myself and Shola is a real bonus.
“It’s been a couple of years for me since Scunthorpe. But it’s nice to get another goal under my belt.
“I’m really happy. Hopefully, I can get more. It was good to get the goal, especially to kill the game. It was a tough game.
"Morecambe pressed us for a lot of the game, and made us a bit nervous, but the quality shone through, and we got the goals that secured the win.
“I just had to get as far forward as quickly as possible to isolate the last defender.
“I think I managed to do that, and cut between the two of them and finish it, which was good.
The result lifted spirits for Newcastle last night and Ameobi said the result was a relief for the whole squad.
“It’s been a tough start to the season.
It’s nice to get a positive result.
“It’s good for the players and fans.
“Hopefully we can build on that and take it into Saturday’s game.
