Newcastle's Next England Star!
In turn, Milner has insisted he is looking forward to a long and successful career at Newcastle as he praised the impact made by Allardyce and his staff this summer.
Milner: "The manager has brought a lot of new ideas with him and obviously you want to use anything that is going to give you that extra edge in the Premiership. Even the smallest thing is important. Even the smallest detail can win you games and that's what this new regime is all about.
"Hopefully it will also help us avoid getting as many injuries as we have had in the last couple of years as well. We've already had a few this pre-season, but the more we do the right things, they will become less and less.
"It's nice to be back at Newcastle after the summer. The European Championships (Under-21s) was a great experience, although obviously disappointing when we lost to Holland on penalties. I've had a short break, but I'll be raring to go for the first game of the season at Bolton.
"You're going to have ups and downs but that's the way it is. Obviously in the transfer window last summer it looked as though I was going to go.
"When it didn't happen I just wanted to get on with it at Newcastle. Anyone who knows me just knows I want to play football and that was all I wanted to do when I came back. I knuckled down and was fortunate to play a lot of games. Hopefully I can do something similar this season and have a long and successful career at Newcastle. I had just got to Villa's training ground when I got the call from Newcastle saying the transfer was off. I was actually in Martin O'Neill's office so it was close.
"Who knows what would have happened if I had gone to Villa. I had a great year there on loan and they're a good club, but I'm delighted with the way things have worked out for me at Newcastle. I want to be here for a long time and I want to win things. The Villa thing is in the past, it's a closed chapter in my career and I'm looking forward, not backwards."
