Butt said:
“There has been a suggestion that I deliberately snubbed the fans after the semi-final on Sunday. I wish to go on record and state that was not my intention, if anyone has been left with that impression I apologise.
“I was distraught about the result and our performance and I was also deeply in thought about my own game, as I desperately wanted to make a big impression especially against Manchester United.
“We have a number of big games left and as a group of players we will be giving 100% to try and improve our league position because that’s what the fans deserve.”
Will his words make any difference? Most fans appear to have already decided that he must be sold in the summer.
Heralded as the answer to our defensive midfield shortcomings – Butt has missed most of the season through injury and when he has played has looked short of pace and precision.
His future could depend on his performances between now and end of the season.
