He returned to football this month as assistant to Home Park boss Paul Mariner.

John Carver: "One thing I can say is that I won't be celebrating if Plymouth knock Newcastle out or score.

"I'm employed by Plymouth, and will be trying to help them through, but I won't be rubbing anybody's nose in it.

"I know Newcastle's main aim is to get into the Premier League, but they don't want to go out after the first hurdle and certainly the fans don't want that either. That means there is no pressure on us."

"If I'm being honest, the most important thing to Plymouth Argyle is staying in the Championship this season. Getting relegated means a long road back to this division, so survival is almost certainly our priority.

"But this is the FA Cup, and we know that getting into the next round means a money-spinner in the next round, or even a draw takes us back to St James's Park for a replay.

"We're going into the game on the back of two massive wins, beating Cardiff away and then beating Reading 4-1 at home.

"The lads are in a really good frame of mind and they want that to continue. We've already spoken to them about the game, and told them to enjoy the game.

"When I came here, despite the position in the league, it hit me straight away that they're a really tight knit group.

"They're prepared to die for each other on the pitch, and you can't ask for any more than that."
