Kevin Keegan believed that he had sealed the signature of the England forward after agreeing a £7million fee with Leeds, a £35,000 a week contract with the player, and the injury-prone Scouser passed a stringent medical.
But when it came to it Fowler simply changed his mind, as he told Sky Sports News: "I had the opportunity to think things over and I wanted to stay at Leeds United. I am happy to do so now and I want to do my best for the club."
So was Fowler worried about his £7,000 per week pay cut or has he lost confidence in his dwindling talent, preferring to stay on the periphery at Elland Road?
Don’t be surprised if we see Fowler playing for a Manchester club at St James’ Park before the end of this season.
