The last time I can ever remember one supporter causing so much fuss in the stands was the day Bill Shankly stood to watch Liverpool (v Coventry 1976) on The Kop.
The Liverpool legend had left the club, but decided to join the fans on the terraces. The word spread and he was mobbed.
No Free Beer In Mackem-land!
Ashley took a mini bus to Sunderland last week to join the Toon Army in the "cheap seats", because he was stopped from wearing his black and white shirt in the director's box.
But he had the Mackems in a flap ... wondering what he was going to do next!
He wanted to buy a pint for EVERYONE in the away end, but those in authority at the Stadium of Light blocked it.
He was told the bar staff would not be able to cope with the demand and the prospect of 2,500-plus supporters trying to get their hands on a pint would compromise spectators' safety.
