The midfielder has agreed to play in Peru’s friendly against the USA on August 20 just three days before the home clash with Manchester United, and given the poor quality of some of Nobby’s post-international performances Sir Bobby isn’t likely to be happy.
Whether or not this latest news will have any effect on his future at St James’ Park remains to be seen. But with Lee Bowyer, Jermaine Jenas and Darren Ambrose all ready to step in to Nobby’s boots on the right of midfield it certainly won’t help him keep his place in the starting line-up.
Of the decision Nobby told The Journal: "That is the one friendly I have committed to because it is the final game before our first competitive match.
"But I am desperate to play against Manchester United and I will do everything in my power to be back on Tyneside as soon as possible - even if it means flying on Concorde.
"I haven't kicked a ball since the end of the season as I told the Peruvian coach I needed a rest this summer to help Newcastle to qualify for the Champions League and he agreed. I aim to be in the best shape possible for pre-season and for the qualifying games.
"I am committed to playing competitive games for Peru again this season, and I can understand that the coach wants to see me play in one friendly before he selects the squad. But of course it's not an ideal situation when you look at the Premiership fixture list."
