The winger said: "I had a conversation with the Peruvian Federation and asked them to understand that I don’t want to play the friendly games because I want to give all my energy to Newcastle.
"I prefer to be called for official games only. I have been talking about this with the board members since last year.
"I want to put my mind on Newcastle because we have very important games to play, but I would be happy going to Peru for the official games."
The words are bound to be of some comfort to Sir Bobby, although he would be happier if Nobby retired from international football completely.
