Minstermen boss Chris Brass has been trying to bring in a loan striker for some time in a bid to halt the club’s alarming dip in form, and moved for Offiong after freeing up some of his wage budget by allowing highly-rated midfielder Lee Bullock to join Cardiff City.
England youth international Offiong is yet to make his senior bow for United, but last season scored four times in nine games during a loan spell with Darlington before enduring a miserable spell with Motherwell.
He made his York debut in Saturday’s 0-0 home draw with Torquay United, playing for 66 minutes before being replaced by former Toon trainee Levent Yalcin.
