Perhaps it's time to end the back slapping and look at the facts.

Pardew had the supporters spitting their venom like I have never before, and it came to the point he was even too frightened to leave his dug-out because of the abuse.

Carver has been all wind and piss, telling us he wants Pardew's old job, but if the performance against Stoke is anything to go by ... I pray to God he doesn't get it!

Today Carver says he won’t pick up a newspaper whether he beats Crystal Palace or not tomorrow night – and it's all thanks to his old pal -  Alan Pardew.

The Newcastle head coach says Pardew urged him to ignore the views of pundits and journalists during his tenure with the Magpies.

Pardew and Carver go face to face at Selhurst Park in the first meeting between the two teams since Pardew left United.

The Londoner endured fan protests during his stint in charge at St James’ Park, with a ‘Pardew Out’ campaign following Newcastle on away games.

Carver said: “How he dealt with it is invaluable because it doesn’t happen that often.

“So it will put me in good stead.

“He taught me it’s important not to be around the training ground all the time.

“He said: ‘Go and play golf and be with your friends’.

“It’s all valuable information.”

Carver says he is stronger for the experience of working with Pardew.

He added: “It was tough, but I’m not sure there are many people out there who could have dealt with it.

“We spoke last week about the Stoke situation (the fans’ protests at September’s 1-0 defeat) as being my lowest point of this season.

“I dealt with it totally different to how he dealt with it. His personality allowed him to deal with it.

“It actually helped me be a little bit stronger and thick skinned.”

So the bottom line is - ignore the supporters and media because they don't know what they are talking about. When ... in fact ... I think he will find ... THEY DO!
