We are hardly in a good position, second from bottom in the league, but if you watch the news each night, do you EVER hear the Mackems making the top story?
A city ... and club ... of mediocrity.
But one Mackem who has no axe to grind is Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn.
Niall Quinn: "It would be wrong of me to talk about the situation at Newcastle in any other way than to say that I want all the clubs in the North-East to prosper and I want the area to be a hotbed of football where trophies are won, preferably with us winning the honours.
One Mackem With No Axe To Grind!
"I want to have a derby against Newcastle where we are both trying to get into Europe as a result of it. That's the derby we want.
"I don't want to be playing Wolves next year instead of Newcastle. I want to be playing Newcastle. I want to play them and I want to beat them.
"I want to make the derby bigger than it ever was.
"I have great friends here in Sunderland and whenever I go for a round of golf with them or a pint as soon as they get a bit lippy about Newcastle I remind them were we were two and three quarter years ago.
"We were miles away from where they are now. They are in a great position compared to where we were.
"I'm not privy to what goes on over there and I have kept my head down over the last couple of months because we have our own things going on, we are in a good position. But it's only good now if we protect and look after it otherwise in a few months time it could be us. I hope Newcastle get out of it."
