Clark: “It will give my players a taste of what things could be like week in, week out.

“This cup-tie provides the perfect chance to pick ourselves up after Saturday’s disappointment.

“Bristol was a setback, but every team suffers them at some stage and it’s about how you respond that determines how far you will go.

“Training this week has been good, We had a chat about what happened and why it did, then moved on.

“That game has gone, there’s nothing we can do about the result, and as long as we learn the lessons, myself included, we’ll be okay, because before Bristol, we were doing fantastically well.

“Now we have a big test against a very good side, and what a great occasion it promises to be.

“I know I’m biased, because Newcastle are my home club and I was lucky enough to play there (in two spells) and begin my coaching career at the club (he was in charge of the reserves from June 2006 to November 2007, when he became assistant manager at Norwich City).

“But having played at most of the top grounds in the country, I can honestly say that the only one that compares to St James’ Park in terms of atmosphere and the sensation you get when you run out is Old Trafford.

“The fans up there live for their football – I can’t go anywhere in the city without someone stopping me for a chat – and they really get behind their team and do their utmost to help them win."
