Chris Hughton: "It was a good run out in the end - it capped a good week. The first game is always a cagey affair and it was pretty even, but the quality that we have got showed in the end.

"The morale has been good, the training has been good, the set-up has been excellent and although Kazenga (Lualua) came off with a slight hamstring we got through the week with no injuries."

"The week's experience for them and playing the game is excellent for the young players and I thought they handled themselves very well.

"They have to make the most of the opportunities that they get and I thought it was a very good start."
