HE TRIES TO SIGN ANOTHER GOALKEEPER!!!
Charlton boss Chris Powell wants the future of Newcastle United target Rob Elliot’s to be resolved as quickly as possible before it risks having a detrimental impact on the rest of his squad.
The Tyneside club have registered an interest in the 25-year-old goalkeeper, who is a popular figure in the dressing room and in the stands, but the Charlton Athletic boss says the club have not received an official offer.
Powell: “He’d be a free at the end of the year if he doesn’t agree a contract here.
"I’ve always said I rate Rob as a keeper and he has started off the season very well.
“But we have been trying to tie up all of our players, as we did with Johnnie Jackson and Scott Wagstaff, and I wanted Rob tied up alongside the players I brought into the club, but it hasn’t happened.
“So I felt I didn’t want to be caught short because if I hadn’t brought in another keeper to add to the two we’ve got then if I lost Rob I’d be left with one senior keeper. It’s just something I had to prepare and think about and we’ll see what happens in the future.
“I can’t stop people having interest in any of my players, but that’s how football is. Especially if you start off quite well people take notice of what you’re doing.
“I don’t know what will happen. I don’t want my players unsettled – that’s for certain – as they are in a good frame of mind. Even the ones who aren’t playing are in a good frame of mind because they are all sharing in the start we’ve had.
“It’s something I would like done one way or another then we move forward from there.”
