Owen Admits Confidence Is Very Low

Michael Owen: "Confidence is such a big thing in football. I have come to a club which had taken one point from four games this season so I didn't expect everyone to be flying and full of confidence and we are definitely lacking it at the moment.
"It might take a week or two for us to find that confidence but once it comes, and once we get our first win, I'm sure that we will be okay and we will start to play better.
"You always dream of making a dream start, of scoring on your debut and winning the game. But you have to be realistic about it - sometimes it doesn't happen and this was one of those times. I believe there will be plenty of good occasions, with plenty of goals and points along the way."
"I have been used to pressure all my life and I prefer playing when people expect things from me. I expect a lot from myself and I don't think about all the permutations, I just try to think about what is best for the team.
"Strikers always rely on the rest of the team and it just wasn't to be for the whole team on Saturday. If a team doesn't play well, the strikers suffer. We didn't have many chances but the lads here are not the most confident and, when we get that first win, we will see some much better performances.
"I wanted to show my best but it was not to be. Football is all about ups and downs and things can change in the space of a day. We weren't at our best and it was not the ideal result. We didn't give the fans much to shout about."
