Although it may be difficult to find any alternative news to that of Craig Bellamy’s fallout with Graeme Souness, the results of our latest poll perhaps take on more significance given the events of the past 24 hours.
When asked who you would like to replace Alan Shearer out of our recent transfer targets the clear favourite to emerge was Michael Owen. The Real Madrid forward scooped 62% of the votes with Yakubu collecting 20%, Luis Boa Morte just 1.5% and the remaining 16% going for the ‘other’ option.
If Bellamy were to leave I believe it would show this club up to be the unprofessional act that it ultimately is and, in the long term, would deter players of Owen’s calibre from joining the club.
For Bellamy to leave would be a travesty. He is arguably our most effective player and, unlike Dyer, will have the backing of a large section of our supporters.
From top to bottom Newcastle United are so far removed from the professional approach adopted by the top three clubs – how on earth do we ever hope to catch up on the pitch when our off the pitch performance is so mismanaged and lacking in authority?
