Owen has joined Jimmy Greaves, Sir Bobby Charlton and Gary Lineker in joining the "40-plus club" after Wednesday night's double strike against Russia at Wembley.
It is a milestone Owen is proud of reaching nine years after making his debut for the Three Lions.
Owen: "I've been playing for my country for nearly 10 years now and hopefully there are a few more to come but to get to 40 goals is a great milestone.
"It's something to look back on with pride and only three others have achieved it.
"
You always enjoy scoring but it takes a lot of hard work to get into that position. You don't get many chances in international football."

Bobby Charlton scored 49 goals for England, the first coming on his debut in the 4-0 win against Scotland at Hampden Park in Glasgow on 19 April 1958.
The last in the friendly 4-0 victory over Colombia at El Campin in Bogota on 21 May 1970, just before he ended his international career at the 1970 World Cup final tournament in Mexico.
