The idea comes from speculation that Oba Martins is on his way to Arsenal (another rumour with no substance) and Owen 'prefers' to play with Heskey, following their success together in the last two England fixtures.
So what does Owen think of it all?
His comments in the match programme (v West Ham) certainly back Sam Allardyce's judgement that two similar strikers cannot produce the goods together.
But, saying that, Heskey has the arsenal to be one of the greatest strikers in the game yet he has never been a prolific goalscorer. That makes a strike partnership one-dimensional, and surely not what we need.
Owen: "A partnership only struggles to work when you've got two players who are really similar.
"But whether it's Emile, or WAyne Rooney, or other players different to me, a partnership can click straight away.
"I've played with Emile for Liverpool and England and we know each other's games and it worked well, particularly against Russia.
"But if we didn't play well in a game together, then people would probably criticise."
