That was the story the press wanted ... however ...
Now let's put this into perspective, prior to a vital World Cup qualifier, Michael Owen is NOT going to say any other, but ... he has insisted there are no problems between Wayne Rooney and David Beckham as England prepare for their two crunch World Cup qualifiers.
Owen On That Spat
With Sven Goran Eriksson's side knowing back-to-back victories against Austria and Poland will take them to next year's World Cup finals, the pressure is on the national team after the embarrassing defeat in Northern Ireland.
Rooney and Beckham clashed on the pitch in Belfast and much has been made of their spat in the press, even though the Manchester United striker travelled to Spain to watch Real Madrid play Mallorca at the weekend.
Michael Owen: "I don't know anything about it. I'm sure Wayne was going over to see Real play and speak to David but, as regards problems between them, I'm sure that's not the case.
"I know both of them quite well. I played with David for a year and played in Liverpool for many years when Wayne was just over the park.
I know them both really well and they are not the type of people to have grudges or anything like that.
I know them both really well and they are not the type of people to have grudges or anything like that.
"Things are said between players all the time, and things can get blown out of proportion, but there wasn't any wildly big argument between them. I was in the dressing room and I didn't hear anything bad."
