Owen: Smith Needs A Goal!
Michael Owen: "With Alan, he's in the team to contribute goals. But you have to analyse each player for what they are and how they get the ball and what you get out of them.
"Obviously as a striker, he needs to chip in with goals.
"I was with him at Lilleshall and I have known what he can do from a young age.
"When he's confident he will score goals. The problem of confidence is throughout the team when your struggling. It's infectious.
"But nobody is working as hard as Alan. He just shrugs things off after every game.
"Invariably he is coming off the pitch dripping with sweat and blood. But he would run through a brick wall for anybody.
"In all of this it isn't a lack of effort and that's why the crowd are still behind us. Everybody knows that we have got more ability than we are showing.
"I have seen it a million times before.
"When I feel confident as a player, I feel I am going to score a hat-trick every time I go on to the pitch.
"It's the best thing in the world when you've got it. When you're down and you don't score, it seems harder. Ask anyone in sport - it's a horrible thing.
"We just need that spark to give us something and it will snowball.
"This manager will make it snowball as well if we show him what we've got."
