Obviously the London media love to have a dig at the Toon, and after saying Michael Owen was a "fool" to join Newcastle, they then said there must be a whole host of get-out clauses in this contract. As it happens, the player says quite the opposite. He insists he will see out his four-year contract at St James's Park - despite suggestions that the striker has negotiated a clause which could enable him to quit the North-East next summer for Liverpool.
The precise conditions of Owen's contract will not be revealed but it was understood that there IS a clause which would enable the striker to leave next summer should an offer of £12m be tabled - a fee Liverpool might be willing to offer.
