The struggling Premier League side are keen to get the former Newcastle boss in place before the New Year’s Day match against Aston Villa.
Palace have already agreed a compensation package with Newcastle for Pardew to return to the club where he made more than 100 appearances as a player between 1987 and 1991.
After the visit to Villa Park on Thursday, Palace travel to Dover on Sunday for an FA Cup third round tie.
Pardew's first home game would be at Tottenham on January 10, followed by games against Burnley, Everton and Leicester.
And Pardew would come up against Newcastle at Selhurst Park on February 11.
Keith Millen, who was assistant to Neil Warnock before he was sacked on December 27, took charge of the 0-0 draw with QPR on Sunday has expressed his intent to continue his role if required but stated he wanted a swift appointment, whoever that was.
Pardew could turn to Darren Bent to fill Palace's striker void if the Eagles cannot complete a deal for Swansea's Bafetimbi Gomis.
Millen could yet handle affairs at Villa Park on Thursday, and admitted the club must not lose focus on their January transfer targets.
"There are players on the list that I'm sure the chairman's going to go through with the new manager," said Millen, who will be retained in Pardew's backroom staff.
"I've been involved in the discussions with Neil (Warnock) when he was here and the scouting network.
"If we can bring in one or two players then we can be at full strength."
Former England striker Bent's deal at Villa expires at the end of the season, and the 30-year-old has scored two goals in five games in his current loan stint at Brighton.
Derby boss Steve McClaren is believed to be interested in taking Bent to Pride Park until the end of the campaign, but Press Association Sport understands Palace are now monitoring proceedings closely.
Pardew has been an admirer of Bent ever since the pair worked together at Charlton.
Former Crystal Palace midfielder Pardew tried to take Bent to Newcastle in August 2013 before the 13-cap forward opted to join Fulham on loan instead.
Palace have prioritised signing a left-back and a striker in January's transfer window, with the club battling to progress plans after sacking manager Neil Warnock on December 27.
Warnock had made no secret of the club's desire to complete a deal for Swansea frontman Gomis.
St Etienne president Bernard Calazzo has this week claimed that Gomis will return to his first club, and Palace face competition from several Premier League rivals to land the France striker.
Palace's biggest challenge in January after that will be to retain in-form winger Yannick Bolasie, with the likes of Stoke keen to prise the France-born flyer away from Selhurst Park.
FOR ALL CRYSTAL PALACE FANS ...
THIS IS NOT A GOOD SIGN!

Burnley climbed out of the Barclays Premier League relegation zone for the first time since September after extending their undefeated run to four matches.
The match itself was unremarkable, an occasionally untidy Turf Moor scuffle lit up by George Boyd's 20-yard opener for the hosts and Yoann Gouffran's clever flick that teed up Papiss Cisse's equaliser.
But the significance of escaping the bottom three is huge to Sean Dyche's Clarets.
A matter of weeks ago they were the only club in English football's top four tiers not to have won a game, now with eight points from the last 12 on offer they are out of the drop zone.
Hull replace them in 18th place, though they have a chance to change that on Wednesday night.
Burnley's resurgence has been built around the return to form and fitness of Danny Ings and although absent from the scoresheet he was again in excellent form.
His cushioned header provided Boyd with the chance he needed to break the deadlock in the 33rd minute and whenever the ball came close to him in the final third, he gave fright to the Magpies defence.
But a draw was the right result and Cisse's fifth of the campaign set Newcastle back on course after a winning run of six matches ended in defeat against West Ham on Saturday.
United boss Alan Pardew was relieved that his worst fears were not realised before kick-off, Daryl Janmaat, Massadio Haidara and Mike Williamson all passed fit.
But he was still without a handful of injured regulars and stand-in goalkeeper Rob Elliot, deputising again for the absent Tim Krul, was called into action in the eighth minute.
David Jones' one-touch pass set Burnley off in attack, giving Scott Arfield licence to run before touching the ball through for Ings.
With three striped shirts close by, he negotiated room to shoot where a square pass for Boyd might have been the wiser move.
It would not have mattered had his effort nestled in the top corner but Elliot beat the ball away one-handed.
The Clarets continued to probe, Kieran Trippier catching the back four flat with a clever chipped pass that Ashley Barnes could only turn into a corner.
Soon after Barnes flashed over from an even better opening after good hold-up work from Ings.
Newcastle were playing largely on the counter but began to string chances together, Sammy Ameobi stretching Tom Heaton with a skiddy shot across goal and Cisse blazing high into the stands following a deft set-up by Gouffran.
Heaton made a second decent save after 32 minutes, rushing to smother Mehdi Abeid's toe punt.
But it was Burnley who were playing with greater control and they were rewarded with the opening goal a minute later.
Ings turned Trippier's speculative long ball into something much more dangerous, winning the aerial battle and cushioning a perfect header into Boyd's path.
The Scot took a touch out of his feet and fired past the unsighted Elliot from 20 yards for his second of the season.
The lead might have doubled just before the break when another deft touch from Ings invited Jones to shoot, only for the midfielder to miss the target.
Pardew did not hesitate to change things, hauling off Williamson and Ayoze Perez at the break and sending on Steven Taylor and Remy Cabella.
Within three minutes the scores were level.
Cabella nearly made an instant impact, his goalbound shot blocked by Stephen Ward, but the goal arrived seconds later.
Janmaat's cross was flicked on instincively by Gouffran at the near post and Cisse rifled home from close range.
Immediately the match took on a new complexion, Newcastle finally playing with fluidity rather than rushed breaks.
Burnley were forced back, Cabella revelling in the space behind Cisse and captain Cheick Tiote starting to snap into tackles in the centre.
The home side suffered another setback when Ward hobbled off, handing Ben Mee a first appearance since October 18.
But the fort was holding for Sean Dyche's men, who were happy to see Abeid twice launch hopeful long-range efforts over the top.
The game began to open up again in the last 20 minutes, Burnley regaining territory and asking questions of their own again.
They also asked for a penalty when Michael Keane's header hit a Newcastle player at point-blank range but it would have been guesswork by Phil Dowd to call handball.

Papiss Cisse's fifth goal in six games launched a Newcastle fightback as they ended a four-match losing streak with a 3-2 victory over Everton.
The Senegal international cancelled out Arouna Kone's fifth-minute opener - his first for Everton on his first Barclays Premier League start for the club he joined during the summer of 2013 - with a close-range finish 11 minutes before the break .
However, Toffees boss Roberto Martinez may feel the African Cup of Nations-bound frontman was lucky to still be on the pitch after appearing to catch full-back Seamus Coleman with a flailing arm four minutes earlier, and there may yet be repercussions with referee Craig Pawson having taken no action at the time.
But if it was Cisse who started the ball rolling, it was Ayoze Perez and Jack Colback who completed the job with the Spaniard's fifth goal for the club giving them a 51st-minute lead which was cemented by Colback's first in a black and white shirt 16 minutes later, although substitute Kevin Mirallas' late strike made for a tense conclusion.
Newcastle ran out in front of a crowd of 52,313 having lost their last four games in all competitions, three of them in the Barclays Premier League, a run which included a 1-0 derby defeat by Sunderland in their last home fixture.
With some bookmakers having stopped taking bets on Alan Pardew being appointed the next Crystal Palace manager, there was an air of uncertainty around St James' Park before kick-off, although the 53-year-old and his players were concentrating simply on the 90 minutes ahead.
They were boosted by the Everton team-sheet, which showed seven changes, many of them enforced by injury and suspension, to the side which lost 1-0 at home to Stoke on Boxing Day, although it was the visitors who started much the brighter.
They got their reward with just five minutes gone when Aiden McGeady slid the ball into the space where full-back Paul Dummett should have been for Seamus Coleman to leave Yoan Gouffran in his wake and cross for Kone to convert from close range with central defenders Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson looking on in horror.
The Magpies were simply not at the races as Gareth Barry was allowed to orchestrate from the middle of the park, and when they finally managed to string two passes together, Moussa Sissoko's touch deserted him in spectacular style as he ran on to Cisse's 12th-minute flick.
However, they gradually worked their way into the game, although without being able to find the required quality in the final third with keeper Joel Robles untroubled.
Coleman was left on his backside and claiming bitterly to the referee after clashing with Cisse as the pair awaited the delivery of a set-piece, and replays suggested the defender might have had a point about the striker's swinging arm.
He was even more aggrieved four minutes later when the striker fired the home side level, reacting first when Williamson turned Cheick Tiote's cross back across goal to beat Robles.
Martinez replaced James McCarthy with Ross Barkley before the restart, and it took the newcomer just three minutes to embark upon a trademark run upfield, although his pass to Kone was poor.
But it was Robles' goal which came under threat two minutes later with the keeper turning the ball aside after it ricocheted off Gouffran's shins, although his relief was only momentary as Tiote picked out Perez on the left and he cut inside Distin before thumping a shot through Coleman's legs and into the bottom corner.
The home side were growing in confidence, but they could not afford to relax and they were grateful to see Samuel Eto'o sky a 64th-minute effort high over after Leighton Baines had out-fought Tiote on the sideline.
But the visitors fell further behind three minutes later when Barkley failed to cut out Daryl Janmaat's cross and Colback stabbed the ball past Robles to make it 3-1.
Mirallas reduced the deficit with six minutes remaining when he got behind a static Newcastle defence to stab Baines' long ball past the advancing Jak Alnwick, but that was as good as it got for the Merseysiders as they slipped to a third successive defeat.
