But having ripped the heart out of the side by selling big names Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan - and three more of Chris Hughton's promotion 'backbone' set to go (if offers come in) Jose Enrique, Joey Barton and Fabricio Coloccini - Pardew is playing a danergous game.
The last time a manager chopped and changed so much in such a short time we suffered as a consequence.
It happened was under the Bald Eagle - Jim Smith - and we all know what happened then.
