Alan Pardew – who has Ryan Taylor back from suspension for Aston Villa on April 10 – is also considering handing Shane Ferguson his full Premier League debut should left-back Jose Enrique fail to recover from a hamstring problem in time to face Wolves.
Alan Pardew: “I don’t think I’ve been lucky with injuries and suspensions since I’ve been here.
“Jose Enrique coming off at Stoke affected the team – he’s a very important player. He’s doubtful for Wolves.
“But the players who have come in have done great jobs for me. Players like Shane Ferguson and Danny Guthrie have done well, and I’ll need them again.
“We’ve got Ryan Taylor back available again (for Villa), and in some ways that cancels James Perch’s suspension out.”
Perch’s three-game suspension has been reduced to one match after an appeal to the Football Assocation.
