Alan Pardew: “For us - particularly myself - we stand here and make excuses for what went on.
“It starts to get a bit boring after a while.
“And a bit repetitive.
Gabby finds the net (at long last)
“So it’s nice to stand here and say we put our heart on the line.
“It was a real high pressure game.
“We have had games at home that we should have won.
“And games on the road that we should have won.
“We haven’t managed to do it.
“I don’t care how the win come it just needed to come.
“We need to take a step forward now.
“And not think this it or that we’ve cracked it.
“This is just the start for us - to get up that league.
“I’m not going to pretend it hasn’t been tough.
“It has been difficult to look our fans in the eye when I’ve met them in the street.
“I’ve listened to their frustrations and complaints.
“It’s fair.
“I can’t say it’s not - we should be winning more games than we are.”
