The Toon boss has made it clear that Europa League - and League Cup - are not a priority this season.

Leaving Alan Shearer to hit out and say: "You cannot make any competition a priority because it doesn't work like that. You take each game as it comes ... you cannot say we are going to win this game, and not that one."

Pardew and his squad left Newcastle for Madeira this morning ahead of tomorrow night’s game at the Estadio does Barreiros.

Hatem Ben Arfa will serve the last of his three-game UEFA ban, and most of Pardew’s first-choice players will be rested ahead of Sunday’s home game against Chris Hughton’s Norwich City.

Alan Pardew: “It will be a completely different team.

“Whatever team we put out, I want a win.

"If we do that, it will set us up nicely for Norwich.

You have to have belief.

“It’s the most important ingredient. You have to believe you can win a game.

" I’ve been in teams as a player when I didn’t think we were going to win. You have to make sure that belief is there.

“It wasn’t there at Everton (in the first half). We were all at fault. Not just myself, the players and the staff.”

Gael Bigirimana, Dan Gosling, James Tavernier, Gabriel Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Adam Campbell, Rob Elliot and Shane Ferguson (pictured right) are all expected to play.

Demba Ba, Papiss Demba Cisse and Yohan Cabaye were left at home when the squad flew out to Portugal this morning, along with injured captain Fabriccio Coloccini, Cheik Tiote and Tim Krul.
