The  former keeper began his professional career with the Eagles in 1989 after coming through the club’s youth ranks, going into coaching following his retirement in 2006 with Rushden and Diamonds.

After their relegation, Woodman chose to join Pardew’s coaching staff at West Ham, subsequently moving with him to Charlton Athletic soon after, before finally linking up with his former teammate yet again at Newcastle, where he remains to this day.

Pardew is thought to have tremendous faith in Woodman’s coaching methods, having attempted to include him as part of the deal which saw him leave Tyneside at the turn of the year, only to be told by the Mapgies hierarchy that he was staying at St James’ Park.

Now, with a full summer ahead of us, Pardew looks set to try again, despite Woodman himself supposedly having reservations about the switch, given the fact that his son Freddy is on the books at Newcastle as an academy goalkeeper.
