Alan Pardew: "I have had 700 games as a manager and if some manager asked me for advice, I would say never use the word 'desperate' in your press conference, but we were desperate for the win today, and it showed in some of our play.
"But also, the desperation showed in the character and the resilience of the team. I don't think anybody could fault today that, like we did at Swansea, we gave everything we could.
"We would have liked to be better, but when you haven’t won for a while, you lack confidence to see a win out, and it was pleasing that we managed to do that today.
"Sometimes it was desperate, but in the end we got the job done."
