Parker Spat With Fans?

Something we still don't understand what it was about, and perhaps a reader could enlighten us.

If the press have got it right, it seems the transfer of Bayern Munich ace Owen Hargreaves could have a key bairing on Newcastle United in the summer ... or even this January. Manchester United are still trying to coax the German club to sell the England international, but if they don't get their way Sir Alex Ferguson is said to be looking at Parker as an alternative.

One report suggests Ferguson is willing to offer Wes Brown and John O'Shea as part of the deal.

If Bayern DO sell, then the Germans could return to try and sign Emre. They made an offer in the summer, and the Turk was said to be "very interested". But the deal was blocked by Glenn Roeder.

Parker has been given the captain's armband and seems happy enough at the club. But the precarious position in the league has already had him saying there are tough times ahead at Newcastle, and a relegation battle was hardly what he envisaged at the start of the season.

COMMENT FROM TOON FAN CRAIG PIRIE:

Hi, from my seat in the sir john stand my view on the parker incident was:
A couple of minutes prior to the incident he took a heavy looking knock in
a tackle and seemed to be in considerable discomfort but by this time we
had already made our three subs.

A few minutes later after trying to avoid
moving as much as possible clearly due to his injury he found himself in a
50-50 on our left flank next to the half way line and basically pulled out
of it presumably due to the pain of his knock.

This naturally infuriated
the section of fans who reacted as then did Parker. Basically i think he
was reacting because he was genuinely in pain and could have risked
serious injury had he gone in with his usual full-blooded passion. He was
then jeered next time he touched the ball and reacted by clapping that
section of fans - sarchastically allegedly.

I think, given his committed
attitude he would have been highly frustrated by our position, the fact
that he was playing poorly and then that he was in pain and when normally
he wouldnt have reacted this frustration made him lose it a bit. However,
I dont agree with arguing back with the fans no matter how irritated he
was, at the end of the day hes the captain so he should rise above it.

Saying that i think we should remember how committed parker has been and
the way he normally goes into tackles and it is understandable that he
would have been upset to be criticised in such a way given his drive and
commitment to our cause on top of the frustration he experienced with our
situation and his during the game .

He is human after all and out of them
all, Parker is one player who certainly should be forgiven for his error.
Atleast he showed that he was passionate enough not to just take it and
sulk but he might do well to apologise for his part but the fans should
take some responsibility too, Parker has never pulled out of a tackle for
us so for him to do so he must have been in real pain.

He should have
still went in for it no matter if his leg was falling off some fans told
me - easier said than done though, people say that as if its easy but i
think they''d realise how difficult it could be in the situation.

Basically, i think the fans anger boiled over and then so did his in the
heat of the moment but it should be known that he did take a heavy painful
looking knock which i think is why he pulled out. He shouldnt have reacted
the way he did though but i think many people genuinely affected by
Newcastle fortunes like us fans would have done the same.
