James Perch admits that he can’t wait to run out at St James’ Park tonight.
The former Newcastle United Boo-Boy favourite will return in the colours of Queens Park Rangers.
But the Mansfield-born utility player says he still has plenty of affection for the Toon Army.
Perch, who was sold by Newcastle to Wigan in 2013, said ahead of the game: “I never wanted to leave Newcastle. I loved my time there and loved being part of the team that finished fifth and just missed out on the Champions League.
“I have ended up getting a move to a great club like Queens Park Rangers. But I’ll never forget the Newcastle fans and what it meant to play for them.
“To hear them chant We’ve Got Perchinio was fantastic. I can’t wait for the game and the chance to see a lot of old faces back at the club.”
Newcastle will be looking to keep some distance between themselves and the automatic promotion places.
And Perch is confident that Newcastle will be back in the Premier League next season.
He said: “I hope that Newcastle get up this season. They have a great side and they have every chance.”
