Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are just three of Perez’s supposed suitors and reports have even suggested a bid could be made for the 22-year-old during the January transfer window.
However, Steve McClaren is adamant that Perez should stay on Tyneside.
Steve McClaren: “His (Perez’s) career is definitely best served here. Absolutely.
“He’s getting development, a good education, the right training and most important of all, he’s playing.
“It’s important he keeps playing, and it’s also important that he’s supported and loved. Here, the fans love him, his team-mates love him and we love him too.
“It’s a great environment for Ayoze to develop.
“January’s not here yet. We’ll only know by the end of January, when we hold on to our best players.
“Ayoze is someone who is doing very well. He came here as a player with potential and played a little bit last season.
“It’s taken him a while to get going this season, but he’s certainly become an important player.
“I look at him though, and he’s still got a long way to go. There’s a lot to do, but the potential is massive.
“He’s got to do it consistently every game, for 95 minutes, but that’s what we’re asking from every player.
“We’re wanting a front four who are consistently threatening, and he’s part of that.
“He’s under contract for a long while, so I don’t think it’s (a renewal is) an issue at the moment.
“He (Perez) has forced his way in. When I first came, I didn’t know a lot about him.
“There were other players in a similar position who I knew a lot more about.
“Ayoze had limited opportunities in pre-season, but he stuck at it, kept going and forced his way into things.
“You try to develop cohesion in a team, and players who can play well together. That’s the process we’ve been going through since the start of the season, getting that cohesion right.
“Partnerships around the park – Daryl (Janmaat) and Moussa (Sissoko) play well together, we’re trying to develop Colo (Fabricio Coloccini) and (Chancel) Mbemba. (Georginio Wijnaldum) Gini and Ayoze link well together, and leave each other with a bit of freedom.
“Earlier, we were always searching for it and changing around a lot – now we’re trying not to do that.
“It’s more about developing that team cohesion, which at times will break down. But when it comes together, we have shown we can play some very good football.
“Time will tell (as to whether I will be given time), we can only concentrate week to week. We feel that way.
“It might be the Titanic that we’re turning around, but we feel that we are progressing.
“We haven’t got consistency yet though and we need that.”

Available from M&M News, in Newcastle.
This book is a collection of the 100 Greatest Newcastle United players of all time, as voted for by NewcastleUtd-Mad.co.uk readers and a panel of journalists who contribute to the website. The players are in an order of five-per-chapter, counting down from 100 to Newcastle United's greatest ever player (as viewed by the author), but the whole point of the book is for YOU (the reader) to decide who goes where. The list is not, by any means, definitive. As with all books of this nature, whether it be "Greatest Albums"; "Best Movies Of All Time"; or "Top 100 Pin-Ups Of The Year" ... no two people have exactly the same opinion. There will be controversy over who is on the list, and chances are, more controversy over who is not. Here are the best of the best. I have painted the picture with each player's profile. Where they end up in the league of NUFC's Greatest is up to you. Because YOU have the final word.
