Newcastle United recorded a hard-fought win over Swansea on Sunday – and the club’s supporters were highly critical of Ayoze Perez on Twitter following the result.

Jamaal Lascelles’ 76th minute header gave the Magpies the three away points and a second consecutive win in the Premier League.

The North East club were without manager Rafael Benitez on the touchline as he recovers from surgery, but they managed to put in another strong display.

Perez completed 90 minutes in the 1-0 victory and has been an ever-present in the team so far this season.

However, Newcastle fans teared into the 24-year-old on social media for his performance and feel that he failed to influence the match at the Liberty Stadium.

Perez played a big role in helping Newcastle get promoted last season from the Championship, with nine goals and seven assists in the league.

The attacking midfielder usually plays in the number 10 role behind the striker and is recognised for being a technically gifted player.

He is yet to open his account this season in the top flight during the opening four games, but did manage in an assist in the win over West Ham.

Perez struggled to create any clear-cut chances at the weekend against Swansea and he was one of the few negatives that fans picked out.

The Spaniard will hope to retain his place in the starting XI despite an underwhelming display and Newcastle host Stoke next Saturday in their next game.
