Bob Moncur: "As a central defender myself I know that ball through the middle are much easier for those in the heart of defence to read, and Newcastle didn't make use of their wingers against Blackpool.
"It can be a nightmare for defenders - when it becomes less predictable - and the wingers start delivering crosses.
"When it’s coming in from an angle – which we know that both Wayne Routledge and Jonas Gutierrez are capable of – it’s so hard to defend.
"Hitting the byline and cutting it across the six-yard box leaves defenders running scared.
"They don’t know what’s coming, near post, far post, the little dink in or firing it hard across the face of goal.
"I know that Andy Carroll thrives on that kind of service, so why aren’t we seeing it more often?
"We know that Chris Hughton now has options and he could change things again for Everton – who knows how he approaches that one.
"Hatem Ben Arfa is now knocking on the door and he looks more than capable of creating the right type of chances.
"Against Blackpool there were a few chances created by coming from the middle, but on a day when the keeper was having a blinder, we were crying out for something different."
