"I know what it's like in Newcastle, and when I first arrived at the club it was on the back of relegation. People back then didn't like the boos, but you cannot stick your fingers up at the crowd otherwise you're history up there.
"You have to come out and fight and take it on the chin, and that's what they are going to have to do against Watford - simple as that.
"I think the decision to play 48 hours after Palermo has backfired. But even still you cannot play like that in front of your own fans - especially the Newcastle fans. There is no hiding place at St James' Park. And United's players know they can do better than that.
"Look at West Ham they were struggling and now they have beaten Blackburn and Arsenal. That's what you have to do, you have to battle."
