Mick Quinn: “It’s not the same as Blackpool coming up this season or even Burnley last year.
“Newcastle have still – just about – got a big name and are capable of going places.
“That’s down to the fact that they have got such a superb set-up, stadium and, of course, incredible fans who can rival most in Europe.
“Manchester United is probably the hardest start they could have had, but Chris Hughton knows what the Premier League is all about.
“He knows what his team will have to be to do well there.
“And I would like to see him be able to strengthen his squad with some players with the experience of playing in the top division who know what it’s all about.
“Newcastle don’t want to be a yo-yo club.
“I’m not going to get carried away because I know it’s early on in the summer, but I know how tough it is going to be for Newcastle next season.
“Because, for me, you need to have ambition if you are going back up or you well get something similar to what West Brom have suffered in terms of going up and down.
“Yes, you get the parachute payments, but surely you want to establish yourselves in the Premier League again, especially after what Chris Hughton achieved last season.”
