United’s England Under-20 striker has proved to be a huge success at Feethams, scoring four times in six appearances.
Tait told The Journal: "I think any player who goes on loan to a lower league club goes back a better player.
"Richard has done very well for us and has added a new dimension to our game. We lacked pace up front but he has that in abundance.
"He's a cool finisher as well and he showed at Carlisle that he has bags of confidence as well when he stepped up to take our penalty.
"I would like to keep Richard for the season but that is still in the balance at the moment. At the end of the day it is up to Newcastle United to decide where he will best develop as a footballer."
Meanwhile Stuart Green has completed his £150,000 move to Hull City.
