And former Newcastle forward Quinn has suggested that he would love to see the rumours prove to be true, especially as it will lead to the end of Ashley's unpopular time as owner at St James' Park.

"You've got a guaranteed 52,000 people there. It's in the city-centre. There's so many pluses to buying Newcastle United. They're back in the Premier League.
