Rafa Benitez says his Newcastle United players did NOT practice penalties ahead oftheir EFL Cup tie.
Benitez's side were beaten 3-1 on penalties after they were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Hull City at the KCOM Stadium.
United manager Benitez hadn't worked on them ahead of the quarter-final.
“We didn’t practice, because it is different when you do it in a training session to when you do it in a game," said Benitez. "It is totally different.
Yep ... but defending dead-ball kicks are always "different" too, but you expect the team to practice them in training!
“The way that we played, I think that we deserved to score goals in the first half and deserved to score goals in extra-time.
"But when we scored the goal, we didn’t manage the situation properly.
"That is something you can get with experience, and hopefully a match like this will give us that experience and in the future we will do a bit better when we have this kind of advantage. We created so many chances."
