Rafa Benitez says he has not heard back from Newcastle United chiefs since revealing he was waiting “for answers” on his new contract.
The Toon boss made his feeling clear on the extension he was seeking last week but it looks like the agony on his future will now be prolonged even further.
Owner Mike Ashley is out of the country at the moment but Lee Charnley is dealing with Benitez’s contract.
When asked about his future, Benitez said: “It is exactly the same situation as before, we are waiting.
“If the media ask me I will just talk about the game.”
When asked if his answer means he has not had any contact from the powers that be on the subject he simply said: “Yes.”
Benitez was also asked about the club’s transfer blueprint after it emerged that he would be restricted to signing younger players.
He said: “The debate is simple - we have to sign good players.
“At Napoli, the president wanted to be in Europe every year.
“We sold Cavani and signed a lot of experienced players.
“The club made £140m back from that.”
Newcastle still need that elusive win to secure their Premier League place.
Reflecting on Crystal Palace last week , Benitez said: “We did enough to get at least one point but it didn’t happen.
“Now we have five games and we have confidence we can get points in any game,
“Hopefully I am not right in saying it could come down to Fulham on the last day.”
