Federico Fernández has revealed he can give his peak years to Newcastle United after joining the club from Swansea City.
The 29-year-old has signed a two-year contract after a whirlwind move on deadline day.
After arriving by helicopter yesterday, the former Napoli star is keen to get started and could make his debut against Tottenham Hotspur.
He said: “I am in the best moment (of my career) at 29.
“I have a lot of experience and ability.
“I will try to improve the team here.
“I can see already the team spirit is very good here.
“We start with a big game at home vs Tottenham.”
And revealing details of his £6million from Swansea City, the defender added: “It was a long day but I agreed the deal by midday.
“I am very happy to be at Newcastle .
“I am fit and I am ready to play.”
Fernández stated his time with Rafa Benitez with the Serie A club was a big factor.
He said: “I really appreciate Rafa being interested in myself.
“I know him from Naples.
“He spoke about the team spirit very well here at Newcastle.
“It is interesting to come here.
“It is a great club, stadium and fans.
“It gave me a lot of motivation to move here.”
