Wiltshire Police said the 23-year-old has been remanded in custody after being charged with criminal damage.
He is due to face Swindon magistrates later today.
"Wiltshire Police can confirm that Nile Ranger, 23, has been charged with one count of criminal damage," a police spokesman said.
"He has been remanded in custody. He will appear at Swindon Magistrates' Court."
Police allege Ranger caused damage "in the region of £2,000" when he tried to barge and kick down a lift door at the block of flats in Gordon Gardens on April 13.
Ranger was also initially sought by police over an assault on a woman at the block of flats. Officers have spoken to the woman and say no further action will be taken.
Ranger's current club, Swindon Town FC, has announced that the player has been invited to a disciplinary hearing on Thursday.
A spokesman for the League One club said: "The club have invited Nile Ranger to attend a disciplinary hearing on May 1 to take place at The County Ground.
"The club have contacted Nile informing him of this meeting. Meanwhile, an investigation is being carried out.
"The club have provided Nile with reasonable notice of this disciplinary meeting to allow him the opportunity to state his case.
"The club will make a further statement following Thursday's hearing."
