The 19-year old had a talk with Kevin Keegan but says he expected to be part of cull at St James' Park.
Troisi was almost a Dutch Roda JC player in January but the deal fell through.
James Troisi: "There were no surprises.
"I've had a long chat with Kevin Keegan and there were discussions about things, and basically he thought it was better (for me) to get some first-team football, really.
"He really didn't promise anything and he's going through some tough times at Newcastle and he wants to buy some fresh players.
"Hopefully I get the call (from Pim) for the Beijing Olympic Games.
"As long as I do what I've got to do and the Olyroos keep performing.
"Hopefully it's good enough (for Pim).
"Roda JC were interested. When that was happening (Newcastle manager) Sam Allardyce was released.
"But there are other clubs that I'm looking at in Europe.
"I'm not sure yet, but we'll just wait and see."
